In response to global economic uncertainty, new federal and provincial laws aim to fast-track the approval of national interest projects across Canada. By building faster, federal and provincial governments hope to improve Canada’s competitiveness and mitigate the impact of current global trade disruptions. However, there is concern that these new laws could impair the Crown’s legal duty to consult within the UNDRIP framework, thereby creating delays for the very projects that they aim to fast-track.
Join Canadian Centre for Environmental Arbitration and Mediation members for a webinar panel of leading conflict resolution experts. They will offer valuable perspectives on how alternative dispute resolution may be a meaningful tool in seeking consensus with Indigenous nations on the approval of major resource and infrastructure projects across Canada. In the words of the Supreme Court of Canada, true reconciliation is rarely, if ever, achieved in courtrooms. Alternative dispute resolution processes may provide proponents and government decision makers with more productive and timely approaches to get shovels in the ground.
