Dr. Yrjö Koskine

BMO Professor, Sustainable & Transition Finance, Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary and Director of Research, Institute of Sustainable Finance, Smith School of Business, Queen’s University

Dr. Yrjö Koskinen is the BMO Professor of Sustainable and Transition Finance at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary and the Director of Research for the Institute of Sustainable Finance at the Smith School of Business, Queen’s University. He also is a research member at the European Corporate Governance Institute. He holds an MSc degree in Economics from the University of Helsinki, and a PhD in Management from INSEAD. His research has been published in leading finance and management journals, such as Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Management Science. His article on CSR and Firm Risk published in Management Science in 2019 is one of the most cited in sustainable finance literature worldwide. He teaches sustainable and climate finance at the Haskayne School of Business for MBA students. He is a frequent contributor to media, such as Globe and Mail, Financial Post, CBC, BNN Bloomberg, The Banker, and The Conversation.

Session Details

Drawing on the Institute for Sustainable Finance’s report on The State of Canadian Cleantech Venture Capital Markets, this session examines Canadian investment trends, gaps in financing commercial growth, and implications for Alberta’s resource-sector innovators. It explores how financing suited to different technologies, public–private investment, and stronger customer demand can help Canadian and Albertan cleantech companies attract capital and scale domestically.
