We’re excited to announce Ian Anderson as the recipient of the 2025 Resource Legacy Leadership Award!
Ian Anderson is a nationally recognized leader in Canada’s energy and infrastructure sectors, with a distinguished track record and decades of service at the forefront of shaping regulatory policy, Indigenous economic reconciliation and large-scale project development. As President and CEO of Trans Mountain Corporation and its predecessor companies for 17 years, Ian played a pivotal role in advancing Canadian energy infrastructure, most notably through his leadership of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project - one of the most significant infrastructure undertakings in Canadian history, completed in early 2024.
Over the course of his 44-year career, Ian held senior leadership roles with organizations including Inter-City Gas, Westcoast Energy, BC Gas, and Kinder Morgan. His work consistently bridged industry, government and Indigenous communities, helping shape the evolution of energy policy and regulatory practices across Canada. His leadership was marked by a deep commitment to community engagement and the creation of lasting economic partnerships with Indigenous communities.
A professional accountant and graduate of the University of Michigan’s executive program, Ian continues to lend his expertise as Director on the Board of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and an Executive Advisor to Stonepeak Capital and Energy Alberta’s Peace River Nuclear Power Project. He also serves on the boards of Backwoods Energy Services -an Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation–owned company - and Resource Works. In addition to his professional roles, Ian has long been active in Calgary’s charitable sector, serving on numerous boards and philanthropic initiatives.
In recognition of his national contributions, Ian was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2022.
